Apollo's Praise is the project of celebrated Finger Lakes winemakers Kelby James Russell and Julia Rose Hoyle, who in 2023 acquired the 20-acre Lahoma Vineyard on the west side of Seneca Lake. The name nods to a Harvard Glee Club anthem from Kelby's undergraduate years. Their Nutt Road Vineyard Dry Rosé is sourced from a Cabernet Franc planting on the Dresden Bench farmed by Peter Martini of Anthony Road — fruit Kelby has worked with since his very first rosé in 2013. The 2025 is a saturated, hot-pink wine with ripe strawberry and red cherry up front, then red licorice, tobacco leaf, lavender and a herbaceous Cab Franc snap. Medium-bodied, well-rounded, with restrained tannins underlining the fruit — distinctly Finger Lakes, distinctly considered.
