The Story

Jerome Bretaudeau has become one of Muscadet's cult figures, and Theia is a fine argument for why. It's Melon de Bourgogne grown on gabbro, the dark volcanic bedrock that gives this corner of the Loire its stony backbone, from vines planted in 1988 in Getigny. Bretaudeau farms organically and biodynamically, ferments on native yeasts, and raises the wine for eight months on the lees in concrete vats and foudres, bottling it without fining or filtration. The result reaches well past the crisp-and-simple reputation Muscadet has long carried: it's a white of real depth and salinity, the kind that makes you rethink what Melon de Bourgogne can do. Labeled simply Vin de France, but pure Loire in spirit.
