Miarlons du Bas clings to a steep slope in the hills above Fussey, sitting just below Mainbey and above the lieu-dit Les Monts de Fussey. That incline means good drainage and cooler air, and the vines here - planted in 1980 - give a wine with real vertical drive. It is the fourth of Chantereves' single-vineyard Aligotes, and the one that leans most toward tension and length rather than flesh. Tomoko Kuriyama and Guillaume Bott farm organically and keep the winemaking hands-off: whole-bunch pressing, native-yeast fermentation, aging in barrel and then on the lees in tank, and the barest touch of sulfur. A pure, precise expression of a grape that rewards a great site.
