The Story

When the man widely called the King of Riesling decides to make wine outside Germany, it's worth paying attention. This is Egon Muller's project in southern Slovakia, on the banks of the Danube near the Hungarian border, made in partnership with owner Countess Ilona von Krockow and local winemaker Miroslav Petrech in a renovated 300-year-old cellar. The aim was to rival the great dry Rieslings of Austria and Alsace, and the wine delivers a mineral, steely style with real energy. Expect lime and citrus, a waxy texture, a flick of ginger spice, and peachy stone fruit, all held together by brisk acidity. A dry Riesling with pedigree from an unexpected corner of Central Europe.
