The Story

Before there was even a Maison Louis Jadot, there was this vineyard. The Jadot family bought Clos des Ursules in 1826, more than three decades before founding their famous house, and it has been theirs alone ever since—a walled monopole of barely three acres tucked inside the Vignes Franches premier cru at the southern edge of Beaune, on land the Ursuline nuns worked for roughly two centuries (convent founded 1626, plot sold to Jadot family in 1826). The 1998 came from a firmer, more structured Beaune vintage, and after nearly three decades it has shed its early austerity and settled into that mellow, savory, fully mature register that only good old Burgundy reaches. Drink it now, without ceremony.
