The Story

Costieres de Nimes is the southernmost outpost of the Rhone - flat, sun-soaked, breezy off the Camargue - and Chateau Mourgues du Gres, run by Francois Collard, is its most reliable address. Fleur d'Eglantine, named for the wild rose that lines the estate's vineyards, is a direct-press rose based on Grenache and Mourvèdre, completed with Syrah and Carignan, farmed organically. The pale pink color is a giveaway: this is rose in the dry, gastronomic Provencal mold, not the candied stuff. Crisp wild strawberry, tangy redcurrant, and a quiet floral lift make it a default summer pour - with the right credentials, and the right intent, to drink without thinking.
