The Story
Bockenauer Stromberg—100% weathered volcanic porphyry, almost no soil, Tim Fröhlich's most barren and steepest site (40-70% grade). Vines here range from 45 to over 100 years old; many are 80-90 years. This is extreme viticulture yielding concentrated, mineral Riesling. Wild yeast fermentation, hand-harvested by necessity on these slopes. The volcanic character here is more intense than the Felsenberg; this is the purer expression of volcanic terroir.
