The Story
Tim Smith spent 15 years at Yalumba and worked at several other respected Barossa producers including St Hallett and Charles Melton before launching his own label in 2001. The MGS bottling represents his take on the classic Barossa field blend: Mataro (MourvĂšdre), Grenache, and Shiraz. These three varieties have grown together in Barossa vineyards for generations, often interplanted in the same rowsâa practice that predates modern varietal thinking. Tim sources from old bush vines across the region, fermenting and blending to capture the essence of Barossa. The result is generous and warm but not heavy, with the spice and earthiness of Mataro complementing Grenache's red fruit lift and Shiraz's structure. Drink this with grilled lamb or anything from the smokerâit's built for food and conviviality.
