The Story
A single-vineyard step up in precision: Ried Ratschen is a cooler, northeast-facing plot on the Deutsch SchĂŒtzener hill. Its sandy-loam topsoil lends an open, fruity, almost easy-drinking character, but the gravel running through the subsoil pulls that fruit into line and gives the wine a firm, Cabernet-like backbone â we think of it as "Cabernet Sauvignon with blood," and the ferrous, savory streak earns the phrase. Old vines, native-yeast fermentation, long aging in large neutral wood. It's the more structured, mineral-driven counterpart to the estate's other single vineyard, Weinberg. From the poised 2021 vintage. Pre-Arrival, arriving mid-July.
