The Story
A serious white Chassagne 1er Cru from Burgundy's most quietly impressive nĂ©gociant-vigneron. Benjamin Leroux spent years as rĂ©gisseur at Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard before starting his own micro-nĂ©goce in 2007; he was certified organic in 2016 and farms biodynamically, sourcing fruit from established growers working the way he wants. Les Baudines sits high on the southwestern edge of Chassagne, near the tree line by Santenay, on bright clay-limestone â a cooler, rockier site that gives finer-boned, more chiselled whites than the village's plumper 1er Crus. The 2019 is a generous, broad-shouldered vintage handled with restraint: rich orchard fruit and toasted almond welded to the cut, mineral spine the parcel always delivers. Drink now with a half-hour in a carafe, or hold for several more years.
