The Story

Chateau Rieussec was founded by Carmelite monks in the 18th century and classified as a First Growth in 1855. Since 1984, it has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), who have made significant improvements to both vineyards and winemaking. While the estate is famous for its sweet Sauternes, R de Rieussec is their dry white—originally made exclusively for the Rothschild family before market demand led to commercial release. The 2021 is roughly equal parts Sauvignon Blanc and SĂ©millon from one of Sauternes' highest and largest estates, bordering ChĂąteau d'Yquem. Fermented partially in oak barrels from ChĂąteau Lafite and aged 6 months on lees, it shows tropical fruit, floral notes, and warm flint minerality. A chance to taste First Growth quality in a refreshing, dry style.
