Les Vignes d'Autrefois is Laherte Freres' tribute to Champagne's most underrated grape, and to the people who put it in the ground: massale-selection parcels in Chavot and Mancy planted between 1947 and 1953, on clay and silt with flint and small stones over a chalky subsoil. It ferments in neutral Burgundy barrels and ages six months on the lees with regular stirring, skips malolactic, and gets only a whisper of dosage. What comes out is Meunier with genuine seriousness: crushed chalk, fresh red cherry, orange citrus and a generous mid-palate that tightens and sharpens on the finish.
